DJA have been the Landscape Planners and Landscape Architects for the Peters Village development from inception. The Peters Village name may first be recognised as a residential development but the project involves significant strategic infrastructure including a new road bridge over the River Medway as well as over 3km of new roads and road improvements and a new school. Following the successful planning process DJA have more recently been managing the successful completion of the landscape proposals on site.

The net area of Peters Village development is approximately 35.05 hectares (86.61 acres). There is significant emphasis on the value of landscape and amenity which will see 11.1 hectares (27.3 acres) of the site is set aside as a variety of public open space, playing fields, plus the protection and management of the Peters Pit nature reserve.

In September 2016 the main infrastructure works undertaken by BAM Nuttall were completed. These included:

Bulk earthwork operations to re-grade large areas of the former pit to make available development parcels.

Site infrastructure roads, services and utilities.

Public open space including the forming of new pedestrian paths, central parkland open space with playing pitches and a showpiece riverside promenade (encompassing timber and composite riverbank cladding for ecological improvements and a walkway/cycleway and bridleway using character materials to reflect the sites industrial heritage).

The £19 million Peters Bridge which was officially opened on 15th October 2016 by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, the Viscount De L’Isle MBE.

During the formation of key infrastructure DJA have undertaken and had approved the landscape masterplanning for individual land sales parcels to allow development to begin by some of the developers on site including Orbit Homes and Bellway Homes. Other works such as public art have started to be unveiled and the site continues to evolve.

DJA are now involved in monitoring the implementation of planting and soft landscape works.
