Jul 20th 2023Planning permission for TWI
TWI is a specialist materials research establishment based on Granta Park in the heart of the Cambridge Science Cluster. The recently approved outline planning application for the development of the TWI campus proposes the refurbishment of existing office and laboratory buildings, and the erection of three new buildings, in conjunction with the creation of new outdoor spaces for the enjoyment of the employees.
Our work was to establish a coherent identity for the TWI estate, while linking to and protecting the setting of the site’s historically significant assets. The proposals comprise four formal courtyards in the immediate vicinity of the buildings to provide outdoor amenity space for taking a break, working and socializing. In addition, several landscape features have been introduced to restore parts of the historic Repton landscape associated with Abington Hall. This includes a walled garden, an avenue of trees and the reinstatement of trees along the boundary of the Hall.
