Appeal success at Wheatley’s Farm

Following a Public Inquiry in October 2024, DJA have successfully overturned a refusal of planning permission for the extraction of sand and gravel with restoration using imported inert infill material at Wheatley’s Farm, Ashton Keynes, Wiltshire. In coming to his decision, the Inspector concluded that:

…the proposal is required to assist in meeting Wiltshire’s ongoing supply of sand and gravel to local markets…. I have also found that with appropriate mitigation that could be achieved through appropriate conditions, the development would not result in unacceptable levels of harm, to the environment and human health.

The proposed development will provide 470,000 tonnes of sand and gravel to the local market and, following restoration, a biodiversity net gain of 73.38%.

In addition to preparing the original planning application, DJA coordinated the appeal project team on behalf of the Appellant and provided planning and landscape evidence at the Inquiry. For more information please contact Peter Wilsdon.
